Start with the basics
Include your suburb, property type, roof type if known, and whether the issue is active right now.
If you do not know whether the roof is tile, metal or mixed, say that. Photos from the ground may help.
Explain when the leak happens
Mention whether the leak appears during light rain, heavy rain, wind-driven rain, storms or only after gutters overflow.
Also say whether it is a new issue or a recurring leak that has been patched before.
Describe where water appears inside
Useful details include the room, ceiling edge, light fitting, cornice, wall junction, skylight area or roof cavity location if safely visible.
Avoid touching wet electrical fittings or entering unsafe roof spaces.
Attach safe photos if possible
Photos of ceiling stains, external roof areas from ground level, visible broken tiles, lifted sheets, gutters or storm debris can help explain the issue.
Do not climb on the roof just to get photos.
